Your PNCLL Pre-Season Rankings
  • What are top 5 teams going into the 2012 PNCLL season??
  • 1. oregon
    2. simon fraser

does the rest really matter? (no offense)
  • I guess I will take my crack at both, here is my take on D-I

    1. University of Oregon
    2. Simon Fraser University
    3. Boise State University
    4. University of Idaho
    5. University of Montana
    6. University of Washington
    7. Oregon State University
    8. Portland State University
    9. Washington State University

    And D-II

    1. Western Oregon University
    2. Western Washington University
    3. University of Portland
    4. Gonzaga University
    5. Whitman College
    6. Southern Oregon University
    7. Willamette University
    8. Central Washington University
    9. Pacific Lutheran University
    10. College of Idaho
    11. University of Puget Sound
  • Guess that means you haven't seen UPS play, they will NOT be the worst team in DII this year.

  • Reply to @TheBearcatHimself: I have to base my poll on last season where Puget Sound lost to Central Washington 26-5 and College of Idaho 9-4. It is hard for me to place them above anyone at this point.
  • We need to get the word out to Stockton, Wishengrad, and Marilyn that this is where the pre-season coaches' polls should be posted.

Hard to bet against WOU and WWU at the top, with UP, GU, and WC in the next tier. UPS could be the best the next level. SOU lost some great players and will need some new blood. Hopefully everyone can get the laxers in their schools to come out and make the league even stronger
  • If I had to guess...

    1. University of Oregon
    2. Simon Fraser University
    3. University of Idaho
    4. Boise State University
    5. University of Washington
    6. Oregon State University
    7. University of Montana
    8. Washington State University
    9. Portland State University

Numbers 3-7 will be neck and neck -- anyone of them could beat or lose to the others. WSU and PSU are tougher to predict. WSU gave OSU a run for their money in February and then upended PSU in March. But then the Cougs got smashed by Montana lost handily to the Vandals in April.
Meanwhile PSU nearly upset UW in February before being routed by Idaho, BSU, and OSU and losing closely to WSU.
The lesson? Watch out for underdogs in February.
  • Reply to @Band: I forgot as well because there has been no talk of them while new team University of Puget Sound has been the talk of the forums. Washington State University is also in the league this year so they should be considered.
  • Reply to @CLamon: Good point. WSU is a wildcard to challenge for not-last-place. Despite their troubles, they do seem to be improving. My guess is that they end up in the basement, but they have a history of success against PSU, so they could jump a spot.
  • Reply to @Band: I am not implying that Washington State is going to be a powerhouse, but maybe put them at #9 on your list.
  • I am positive that the College of Idaho will be #1 in the PNCLL. No bias here though. None.
  • Reply to @TheBearcatHimself: I contacted Stockton and couldn't bring myself to inviting Wish lol. Jason said Marilyn should be posting the coaches poll to mcla.us eventually but we'll see.

Gee, and to think I went out of my way to approach you at the AGM and shake your hand. Way to make a guy feel welcome here, Chris... not

  • Reply to @Dan_Wishengrad: There are two things I know to be true, the first is if there is an MCLA forum, Chris and Dan will both be on it, the second is they will never get along.
  • Reply to @Dan_Wishengrad: Trying not to laugh out loud at work. Sorry Wish I had to give you a hard time because somehow I knew you would find my post! It was a pleasure meeting you at the AGM. The forums wouldn't be the same without you!
  • SFU currently on its way to Northern California. Will play Chico State University on Sunday the 9th 11am
  • Ahhhh...glad to see the forums back to normal. People makeing each other angry, while Steve says something witty as a comeback, and of course the PNCLL dominating the message board.

  • Same old story re: the Huskies in 2012. If (and it is always a BIG if) the incoming Frosh class actually all decides to play lacrosse, then U-Dub could be really good and even challenge for the title. Some awesome talent including high school All-America guys have started school at Washington. Only time will tell if they join the lacrosse team for Spring '12
  • Reply to @Dan_Wishengrad: Personally, I would love to see this happen. Same two teams (in both divisions) every year are the only ones worth anything in the PNCLL, it’s getting boring. If UW is there for D1 and UP for D2, it only makes our league that much better. Let’s throw MCLA parity out the window!
  • Reply to @Dan_Wishengrad: Exactly what I was telling my friends. They do have some All-state and american guys. I actually personally know one who played on my hs team last season. He was a 2 or 3 time all state. UDUB should definetly be a team to watch.
  • Division 1
    1. Oregon – 64 (8)
    2. Simon Fraser – 56
    3. Oregon State- 44
    4. Washington – 37
    5. Idaho – 31
    6. Montana – 22
    7. Boise State – 20
    8. Portland State – 14

    Division 2
    1. Western Oregon – 77 (5)
    2. Western Washington -73 (3)
    3. Gonzaga -64
    4. Portland -61
    5. Southern Oregon -46
    6. Whitman – 41
    7. Willamette – 28
    8. Pacific Lutheran
    9. Central Washington – 22
    10. College of Idaho – 12

Coaches poll finally up, with my only complaint being the misspelling of the word “division” on the press release.
  • Reply to @SteveBlair: What about the fact that for D2 only 8 first place votes are given when there were 10 voters... Or that PLU's point total isn't listed. Or that if you add up all the D2 points mathmatically we are missing votes. Without PLU's point total the numbers sum up to 424. If there were only 8 voters the total points should be 440 but to get that number PLU would have received only 16 points and therefore would be ranked lower than CWU. If there were only 9 voters because Whitman left early the point total would be 495 again if we assume PLU is making up the difference they would be ranked 3rd overall at 71. The only reason I can logically come up with is that some teams weren't paying attention and gave Puget Sound votes on their top 10.
  • Reply to @ChrisCurtis: Well Chris, I guess now that I think about it, there should have been 9 voters for D1 and 11 for D2. But again maybe only 10 voters for D2, if you were at the meeting you would know why. Whitman, we will fill you in later.
  • Reply to @SteveBlair: Typical PNCLL coach's (or coaches', or whatever), with Whitman below SOU after beating them handily in the playoffs last season.

Your alma mater will have alot to prove in 2012, Steno. The retirement of Coach Schmitz is certainly the biggest "loss" suffered by any PNCLL team after last season. If Whitman finds a good coach there is talent there in Walla Walla, for sure. But the low pre-season ranking may actually reflect the respect that the other coaches have for Dave and a skepticism that there will likely be a fall-off in competitiveness without our former Dean Of PNCLL Coaches preparing the Missionaries to play and handling the Xs and Os during games.

  • Reply to @Dan_Wishengrad: Well, sure, but this has happened every year for the past 3, and, if I'm not mistaken, each year WC has beaten SOU.

  • So with multiple coaching turnovers in PNCLL D2, which team has the coach with the longest tenure?

  • And speaking of SOU coaches, now on the staff are Alex White, Jack Pfieffer and Carter Boggess. Nice to see Raider alumni giving back to the program.
  • Also on the Raider front, I don’t think Mark Brown is worried about the loss of talent, when you look at their roster online, they look to be pretty set up this season. If people aren’t going to let me fly under the radar, I promise I won’t let SOU.

I agree it's kind of weird how that always happens. Maybe because SOU and Whitman split their meetings last year? Regardless I would have had Whitman above due to the playoff win based on last year.... Maybe the voters took into consideration the recruiting class of SOU this year and the return of a couple key players who took the 10' and 11' seasons off. Also maybe the voters took into consideration the departure of Coach Schmitz who really motivated his guys come April.

  • Regarding Whitman being ranked lower in preseason. I think its funny, but also it doesn't help that Whitman bailed during the AGM before voting could take place.
  • I'm liking the zags are flying under the radar...
  • Reply to @503laxghost: Yeah them running their mouth about taking over D2 last year didn't help much. I am concerned that they might take a step back though not playing any valuable OOC games.
  • They did? I thought is was everyone else who talked them up. I certainly thought they were going to do well in D2 since they held their own VS some of the D1 teams.

I heard that the bearcats have 500 players turning out per practice. thats 1/4 of the school population.
  • Aaaand you won't be hearing any more from my team. Issue addressed, and resolved.
