PNCLL Week 2
  • Week 1 - congrats to WWU for their 13-12 scrimmage win over UW

    Week 2
Simon Fraser at UW, SF 18-10 over the Dawgs based on the last decade of history
Portland at Portland State, usually low scoring, PSU 8-7 in OT
Montana State at Boise State, BSU 16-9, MSU hurt by graduation, but have to go with BSU for having 7 redshirts on the roster....
  • I think your SFU and BSU calls are good but there is no way I see Portland State beating UP.

I think Coach Sanford can really turn the PSU program around...eventually. Looking at their roster though, they have 15 guys and only a few can probably put the ball in the back of the net against a very tough UP defense. PSU also only brings back a few seasoned poles. I don't think that will be enough to contain All-MCLA Ian McAnnis-Entenman let alone the Timm brothers.

  • As a reminder, before I dive into the substance, I've got two sons playing for WWU. So, you can read this with a grain of salt. Also, they're totally not responsible for what I write -- in fact, they cringe when they find out I've posted anything. Anyway, on to the meat of the matter ...

I love UW's write-ups of their games with WWU. In the fall, WWU beat UW 13-8, and huskylax.com described it as "Vikings Outlast the Huskies." On Saturday, UW had a great fourth quarter -- they came back from a four-goal deficit to tie the game -- and WWU finally won in overtime. BUT, WWU was ahead the entire game. According to the Huskies' own scorekeeping, UW had 34 shots, WWU had 58; WWU won 18 of 30 face-offs; WWU had 37 groundballs to UW's 26; and that was all with 13 minutes of penalties to UW's 9 minutes. (By the way, at one point, UW was two-men up, and failed to score.) So, how does UW describe the game?: WWU "edged past" UW.

I'm sorry, but last time I looked, "edged past" meant that a team was behind most of the game or the teams kept trading the lead. I'd have no quibble with "outlast" to describe WWU's win on Saturday, but "edged past"? ... I don't think so.

All that said -- gosh, it's nice to poke fun at other teams -- UW looked pretty good. Adams had some impressive saves, and their offense is a real danger when it's all clicking well. (By the way, the score's been reported as 13-12, but I believe it was actually 14-13.)

Photos of the game will be up on Soundlacrosse.com by this weekend.
  • Well WWU could always write their own recaps? Maybe update that website from last season. Just some PR suggestions.
  • Chris ... you clearly missed my point.
  • @kgoodman UW offers a PhD in Marketing; WWU, a BA.

    Post of the Year?

    Post of the Year.

Regardless of the writeup, I think most people understand that WWU is damn good D2 and UW is middle of the pack D1 at best.

  • @KGoodman I had to say it. I do understand where you are coming from and I'm in no way surprised that WWU won or that UW tried to spin their article into sounding as good as it could for the Huskies despite it being a scrimmage.
  • Are you sure UP plays PSU? The game isn't on the MCLA home page or either teams' schedule.
  • @LaxJunky The game seems to have dropped off the MCLA site but both teams are still tweeting about it. I know the LaxxTV crew was still planning on being there as of last night. UP still has it up on their team site as well.

Maybe its a case where one or both teams wanted to change the game to a scrimmage instead of an actual contest?
