Survey for Lacrosse Heads Justin Folk, Andrew Huls and Josh Alvarez
We are currently enrolled in a course called Engineering Design and Development (EDD). This course is designed to not only teach students the engineering design process but allows them to experience it firsthand. The purpose of this survey is to help us justify our problem.
Thank you for taking the time to fill out this survey.
Our problem statement is: Lacrosse heads bend and warp from face-offs and regular play so that they no longer meet NCAA specifications. This makes it illegal to use, which forces the player to buy a replacement head which can be expensive.
1. Has your lacrosse head ever broken or warped? Yes No
2. Did you have to buy a replacement head? Yes No If yes, what was the reason? a) Warped b) Broken/Snapped c) Wanted a new one d) Other:____________________________
3. Do you take face-offs during lacrosse games? Yes No
4. On a scale from 1-5 (1 not interested, 5 very interested) how interested are you in a head that will not warp? 1 2 3 4 5
5. How many heads do you use in one season? a) 1 b) 2 c) 3 d) 4 e) 5+
6. On a scale from 1-5, 1 being stiff as a rock and 5 being extremely soft, how pliable do you like your lacrosse head? 1 2 3 4 5
7. How often do you play lacrosse? a) Daily b) Once a week c) Once a month d) < 5 times a year
If you guys ever create a non-warping lax head I could do in game testing for you guys if needed. I am a faceoff specialist or FOGO so I would love a head that doesn't warp and is still able to bend for pinch n pops.
1. Has your lacrosse head ever broken or warped? ~I have broken one head during a lacrosse game, but that took place on a hard slap check. I have warped many heads, especially during high school when I took more face-offs.
2. Did you have to buy a replacement head? ~I was able to successfully un-warp the head, but it was made easier by the fact that it only had to fit high school rules. I did have to buy a replacement for my broken head. If yes, what was the reason? b) Broken/Snapped c) Wanted a new one
3. Do you take face-offs during lacrosse games? ~I took a whole lot more during high school than I do now.
4. On a scale from 1-5 (1 not interested, 5 very interested) how interested are you in a head that will not warp? ~5. I am very interested in the engineering that will go into it as well.
5. How many heads do you use in one season? ~I always have one gamer and one back-up stick.
6. On a scale from 1-5, 1 being stiff as a rock and 5 being extremely soft, how pliable do you like your lacrosse head? ~I like a somewhere around a high 2 or a 3 now, because I play short stick defensive mid.
7. How often do you play lacrosse? ~We have practice a couple times a week, but I try to have my stick in my hands for at least a little bit every day
