Easton Raptor....any takers on this dome piece?
  • Who likes it? Who's shelling out for it? What does Easton need to change.

    Raptor
  • I don't find the aesthetics especially appealing and it doesn't look like it would work well with traditional decals. Not interested.

  • it was light and comfortable when I tried it on. But I personally like the single color versions better.

  • I'm going to take a long, discerning look at this for my 11 year old for the following reasons.
    A) I read that there are different padding options, which will allow me to make adjustments for my son as he grows and keep a correct and safe fit.
    B) Easton knows what the heck they are doing with brain buckets, I have no reason to doubt it will be a safe, quality unit.
    C) I don't fall into the 'Lax Bro' demographic, but I think it looks pretty good, especially in black. I'll slap a couple LAS stickers on each side and a GTG sticker on back and it will be the coolest lid on the field.

I know it costs a few bucks more, but I'd rather spend it on my kids head then some of the fancy shorts and socks that are overpriced out there.

    Old man out.
  • The only thing they need to change is the facemask. If they had a regular facemask, I would buy that helmet in a second. I'm still considering it though.

  • I'm in if they can get this facemask on there:

  • Reply to @TheBearcatHimself: Wow. Why haven't we seen this in lacrosse yet?!
  • Yes, possibly TLA's helmet of choice for 2012 in 3 colors.. Navy, White, and Grey (to match all 3 unis) the talk with Easton is "on going"...

  • Reply to @Payu_TLA: I think this would be a great deal for both TLA & Easton. I hope this gets done.

  • Reply to @JonnyB29: Easton went quiet... maybe they lost interest in us. Gotta get 75 new helmets next season just for the men's team, I guess we'll go with Cascade again.

  • Not interested. I simply think that it looks goofy. Aesthetics shouldn't be the #1 priority of course, but I think that Cascade's offerings are sufficiently protective to the point that whatever increase in safety is offered by Easton isn't vast enough to overshadow the fact that I think that they make players look like coneheaded doofuses.
  • Are they working with Adams State this year? Well AS wear the new lids come Spring time? No team gloves or lids in the fall, but Easton was loud and proud on their backs! http://mcla.laxallstars.com/byu-westminster-adams-state-mesa-state-fall-ball-scrimmage-photos-lacrosse/

  • I could really care less about the "looks" of it but it was comfortable when I tried it on but it was just too light. Light enough to not make me fell safe to play it. The foam inside is the same light foam that is used in bicycle helmets which is made to sustain one impact then thrown away. I don't know how long this helmet would last. I'm assuming this helmet meets all of the safety standards so who knows. Lots on concussion research being done out there and chances are that if you have played lax at the high school level on up you have had your bell rung more than once. I'm about a concussion or 2 away from being full on dum dum. Between lax, snowboarding, skateboarding, mountain biking, and 10 years in the military I have sustained many impacts to my domepiece and have worn a variety of helmets. To quote my buddy Boris the Blade, "Heavy is good. Its a sign of reliability. If it doesn't work you can always hit him with it." It would be nice to get one of each helmet and run them through a controlled test to really see what works best.
  • Reply to @gunnergordo: I share a lot of this skepticism. Why the heck would you want a bike foam helmet? Reminds me of the cheap crap they lined the original Gait helmet with.

Speaking of the original Gait, I was an early adopter of a helmet with a cool, original idea, and buying it was the worst idea ever. It rusted in a month, the sliders slid inwards when I got checked in the face crushing my head, and it had a matte red paint job in a bad way. I see a lot of the first gen safety, durability, and wear and tear issues plaguing the Easton.

  • Reply to @Cam: I hear ya buddy. Usually the first run of anything needs improvement. I commend Easton in getting into the lax game and trying to be different with a lightweight unique looking lid but you think they would have learned from the whole Gait thing. I recently just got back into lax after 11 years due to being in the military. I have a little bean head and a CPXR was the only lid that fit right so I went with it. So far so good. Helmets are a weird thing in general. Everyone has a different shaped head so what works awesome for one guy might not work for another. This is something to take seriously as teams get helmet deals with companies. My highschool team I coach has to wear the helmets that the school purchased which I do not agree with.

    Cheers,
    Gordo
  • I like them and wish I could find one to buy
