2012 PNCLL D-II Preseason Predictions
  • Predictions on sleeper teams, All-PNCLL players, impact freshmen, or if the PNCLL D-II is going to have a third team, much like the PNCLL D-I, make a national splash.
  • I don't know what Portland's OOC schedule looks like, but if there is going to be a team to make a splash it's them.

Coaching, established talent, and talented freshmen. All three make them a dangerous team and more than capable to step up into an annual contender in our league.

  • I am guessing there may be at least two more teams who might make a splash as well, I hear UPS has got some ballers this year

  • Reply to @Tlingit_Cannon: Is UPS eligible for post-season play this year? Or are they still on probation?
  • Reply to @LaxJunky: They are not eligible for post-season play. I think they will be instant competitors in the north and they could play spoiler by beating a team or two. Their players (and coach) are eligible for PNCLL player awards and they have some kids who might make that list.
  • Reply to @Tlingit_Cannon: It’s amazing what can be done when you can convince the kids to drink the Kool-Aid
  • I didn't realize they were still under probation...

  • Reply to @Tlingit_Cannon: To clarify, UPS is ineligible for PNCLL post-season play.
  • Reply to @Tlingit_Cannon:

To be clear: UPS is NOT under probation. They are in the second year of the PNCLL's new-team admission procedure. The second year of that process is full member status of the MCLA, but the PNCLL does not allow them to compete in their conference postseason.

The PNCLL has adopted the virtual varsity model and does not allow for "no-questions-asked" admission.

  • While UPS is not eligible to participate in OUR playoffs as has been noted above, they are indeed eligible to be selected for the MCLA national tourney as an At-Large selection -- if they play the requisite number of OOC games and if they are picked by the selection committee. Same goes for WSU in D1. This was confirmed at the AGM.
  • Looking forward to a competitive year of lax in the PNW!
  • Cool thanks for the clarification, I guess both teams will just have to kick a#% and get an at-large bid for Nationals!

  • Some recent fall ball scores to chew on:

    SFU 14 – WWU 3
    SOU 9 – UN-Reno 2
    UC-Davis 7 – SOU 1
    OSU 14 – WOU 12
    UPS 9 – CWU 3

I can only comment on the UPS/CWU game, and all I can say is CWU is a very improved team on last year. Their defense is very strong and athletic and Bressler is much improved from last year. It is safe to expect much better things from them this year.
  • 2011: CWU-26, UPS-5
    2012: UPS-9, CWU-3

sounds like UPS is very much improved
  • Reply to @503laxghost: Let’s be honest, we couldn’t have gotten much worse.
  • Reply to @SteveBlair: while it would appear CWU is looking better this year, the 27-goal reversal probably feels better to the loggers than the wildcats
  • CWU will be interesting to watch this year. At the Laredo they just looked like a solid team on and off the field but underwhelmed as far as the game scores reflected. They have a good sized roster and I know they have a new coach this year, I expect them to continue to build.

UPS though will be (is) greatly improved from last season. It looks like their fall ball is over so if they can use the break between now and February to improve maybe we'll see a huge goal reversal against SOU in Ashland, long way to go though.
  • Well you can only take so much away from a game with running halves and terrible officiating.
  • Here is a quick glimpse at my preseason Player of the Year candidates:

    Ian McAnnis-Enternman – Willamette - Attack
Jacob Bohince – Western Oregon - Midfield
Mike Henry – Portland - Goalie
Spencer Brock – Western Oregon – Attack
Colin Gaddy – Western Washington - Midfield
  • Reply to @CLamon: Hard not to agree with this. Especially the three returning AAs.
  • Reply to @CLamon: I would say it is almost worth considering Frutiger, but he probably gets too many non-releasables to warrant any MVP consideration. If he could keep his attitude in check he would be considerably more valuable to WOU.
  • He was PNCLL tournament MVP with a NR...
  • Reply to @ChrisCurtis: Well that’s because they had to give it to someone, let’s be honest, that tourney was a snore-fest.
  • Can someone explain what’s going on at Western Oregon University? The coach was hired in late July, but won’t even see the team until the end of November when their fall season is completed. The team clearly expressed last season that their coach lacked the commitment needed to run a successful national contender but won’t coach the team until six weeks before their Full House Face Off, and while they play a rather easy schedule in terms of the universities attending, if Coach Ellison wants to develop a new system and structure he is making it very difficult by letting the club run the team right now.
  • Reply to @CLamon: First let me say I want to thank you for your concern about what the Western Program is doing.Let me also that if you are a supporter of the old coach, that is fine, but don't comment on a situation unless you know all the facts. If you want to ask me what is going on then you can get in touch with me.I think our team is more then capable of handling the situation I have a great assistant coach who has done a tremendous job giving my situation.Let's try this CLamon, let's first get all the facts then you can go twist the story any way you like.
  • Reply to @Attack3: I know you aren't a player at WOU, because at WOU I know for a FACT they teach you to put spaces after your punctuation...

  • Reply to @TheBearcatHimself: I know for a FACT they don't!
  • Reply to @Attack3: Hey dude, I think you might be taken a little more seriously next time if you could:

    1. Form a complete, coherent sentence (with spaces AND punctuation)
    2. Engage in respectful conversation without reacting like a kid at recess who just lost at baseball
    3. Offer some sort of counter-argument or information that would otherwise refute CLamon's account of last season's events
    4. Have a better name than "Attack3"

  • Reply to @Attack3:
To add on to LaxJunky's fine pointers, please also be wary of misusing a word because of homonym confusion. As I tell my 5th graders: spoken English and written English are oftentimes two very different things.

  • Reply to @Steno: Great well, I taught High School and, I guess you could possibly be the reason why when students make it to our level we continue to say what a bad job their previous teacher's have done in the past because, they suddenly forgot everything they were taught. So in that case "Mr. 5th Grade Teacher", I guess you and I are both candidates for the sequel, Bad Teacher 2. Well technically you are because I'm not teaching High school anymore
  • Reply to @Attack3:

For a former HS teacher, that is one HELL of a run on sentence to start that paragraph.

Also, you forgot punctuation to end your paragraph. We'll keep working on this throughout the season.

  • Reply to @TheBearcatHimself: Thank you very much Mr. Grammar Control officer. Haha Like I really care.
  • Reply to @Attack3: My first practice in high school ended with a speech from my coach, where he emphasized rule #1, "don't embarrass the program."

This is the main outlet for all buzz on your conference and the MCLA, which is frequented by coaches, alums, and fans like me who have little or no exposure to other resources about the different conferences around the country. I recommend making more of an effort to communicate professionally, and also to brush off criticism with more poise and integrity. You are the coach of a top 10 program.

  • Reply to @Steno: You're welcome, it's always great to know I have a admired fan of my posts.
  • First of all, let me say, this ain’t grammar class, and I can respond any way I want to. For, Lax Junky just because you’ve been on a lacrosse forum for what 3 or 4 years, (By the way it’s not like I really care how long you’ve been in the forum), it certainly seems like if it’s my grammar that’s a problem then it must be your lack of comprehension skills because the response was to CLamon, and furthermore I don’t know you but I’m going to call you sir and not like you did me “Dude”, and I will keep the name Attack3,to answer your question I don’t need to prove , provide or refute anything to you, my task is to worry about this year, and to provide the best program possible for the players at WOU, and yes it has been a difficult time but as I said I’m very lucky to have an assistant coach who I feel has worked well with the people in place. I’m not entitled to give anyone inside reports on what our team is doing unless it is positive and beneficial for both groups, once again that is the up to the discretion of our Director of Public Relation. I will enjoy coaching out in the Northwest, it has had an upside already, and I’m very grateful to have taken over the position. And lastly, about the WOU PR when you need it remark”, Chris has been incredible to the WOU program to the players, I think he doesn’t get enough credit for the job he does, taking on a southern guy first time in the Northwest, he has handled each and every detail with class and my family and my assistant coach can not thank him enough. I look forward to joining in on some discussion on the forum, but yet again that is Mr. Curtis’s job and once again, it has been great to know him already.
  • Well now, what have we learned here?

First, Mr. Lamon is once again lamenting over Western Oregon’s coaching situation. I can assure you Casey that our staff will be ready to go when the games count. Also, I don’t feel it is respectful of you to discredit the programs of Cal State Fullerton, Westminster, and Sam Houston State by implying that the teams on Western’s early schedule are weak.

Second, Mr. Patton you are correct in stating that Attack3 is not a student of Western Oregon University and you are correct in your fact finding that WOU does teach their students to put spaces after punctuation. Apparently our alumnus, Mr. Blair, did not learn this skill to which I am not surprised.

Third, Mr. Junky when you criticize someone it is best to not enumerate your list thusly: 1., 2., 2., 3. Otherwise what have you really taught us?

Fourth, Mr. Steno how is Whitman’s coaching staff looking?

Fifth, Mr. Rodriguez you are a troll that can be unmatched by a mere Director of PR. Please continue to double post for emphasis.

Sixth, Coach Ellison (Attack3 for those not catching on) thank you for the kind words. You will quickly learn by this display of forum posters that the lacrosse forum community is an establishment of polished dialect and any such person violating this rule will be shunned. In addition, wear your Western Oregon allegiance proudly because you will get no such respect, leeway, or fanfare from anyone here. I might add that this is why we hired you, knowing that someone who wasn’t as polarizing as the team would be unfairly painted into a corner without the fire to fight back.
  • Reply to @ChrisCurtis: Chrises spot on money Im not good with the words which makes my job as grant writer hard challenge then flip burgers.
  • Reply to @SteveBlair: I love you
  • Reply to @ChrisCurtis: Thank you very much. It is apparent that the Western Oregon Effect is already working, as long as people are discussing WOU positive or negative, shows that their is still that presences that Western Oregon has at the PNCLL D2 level and I know as a alumnus and as a key part of the Men’s Lacrosse program, I know you are enjoying it.

As it stands, WOU is the Defending PNCLL Div 2 Champions, and figuring out ways to get a 5th title and improving our team and incorporating a consistent effort to finish games and have a dominate style of play, paying attention to details and winning the games we need to win this year is the only thing I am focused on. My job as coach is to make sure that as our Seniors embark on their last year, that they understand that their is only one chance for them to get it right and in the end set the tone for the next group to follow.

  • This is some really great discussion about the upcoming season, lots of insight on how the league is shaping up and who appears to be the frontrunners and possible darkhorses.

  • I'm gonna get back to what this thread was started for, because everyone will always hate the champs (4 in a row to be exact). You guys sound pathetic complaining about punctuation. Grow up & battle with logic or shoot...even opinion, but not grammar. Let's get back on track:

    2012
    1. WOU
    2. Western Washington
    3. UofP
    4. Gonzaga

WOU: You can't deny WOU's dominance (even if you hate us). The arsenal of offensive talent makes it ALMOST impossible for any PNCLL team to stop, the plan has to be executed to a T. Keying in on one player wont stop WOU, because another player will step up. The key to beating WOU is winning f/o's, dominating time of possession, & not letting WOU play their upbeat, run & gun, athletic style of play. But you have to finish with a goal on those long possessions. The top teams in the country know this well, but the PNCLL hasn't caught on to stopping WOU. WOU will never win the Natty Ship until they mature to being able to play at different tempos. (oh & get a 2nd goalie for the first time in school history; they've never practiced full-field).

WWU: I would love to hear some people talk about what Western Washington brings to the table. I know they usually bring in some pretty good freshman classes. WWU is probably the only team that has a shot at knocking off WOU.

UofP: I'm a really BIG fan of this squad. They're young, talented, & have a great goalie. As they continue to mature, the wins will come with more ease. I feel they could have a break out year.

Gonzaga: A definite surprise to the league that these guys never showed up. I have no idea what lies ahead in recruiting classes & would love to learn more about the prospects for next year.

Is my punctuation good enough to not be made fun of by the "Cool & Smart" guys???

  • Reply to @TheDood: Thank you for covering all of that, actually those are great points, and we have a lot to address at WOU. We are along way from a finished product, we expect to be contenders each year, we just have to take one step at a time and as a Head Coach I have to do a better job of preparing them for those next steps.BTW pretty cool name.
  • I can use logic, though it is a new concept for me, let me know how I'm doing:

Are you implying that WOU has some sort of corporate hierarchy to determine its communications pattern? And are you further implying that the Head Coach is in fact at the bottom of this hierarchy and has no control over the communications of the team?

    #2
I don't think it's unfair to be doubtful that the coach of an MCLA team would begin posting and talking trash under an anonymous forum name, "Attack3". I've never seen anything like that in my 8 years in the MCLA. (Though the PNCLL forums are generally the Wild West of nonsense)

User-Tip: you have a user signature on these forums, I'd use it to identify yourself so we can sort through the casual-troll junk. My general INTERWEBZ rule of thumb: No Signature, No Need for Respect.

I look forward to meeting Barry Ellison, I am excited to see him continue WOU's track record of success.

  • Reply to @TheBearcatHimself: I don't think it's "talking trash" as you put it,I'm certaintly not here for that. But my goal is to talk lacrosse with anyone interested in the WOU program and for me to learn more about those involved with PNW Lacrosse. Mr. Curtis handles all those things that's not hieracrchy it's respect for those who were here in the program before me. I don't need a signature, if I wanted one I'm sure I would've added one by now. And I look forward to meeting not just you, but once again, anyone who is supportive of the WOU program. And let me just state this, I'm not going to argue back and forth wasting time if it doesn't pertain to real question's about the program in a positive way, the attention is not needed for me it's for the player's who actually come out and play and enjoy putting on the Western jersey.
  • Reply to @Attack3: Welcome to the PNCLL, where a good portion of the coaches and forum posters have advanced degrees, this isn’t the LSA.
  • Reply to @SteveBlair: Clearly not it say's PNCLL right up there. I'm working on Post Graduate degree as well finishing a Master's in Education Leadership, and btw still don't care how I post. And the comments about certain players not being able to control their tempers, well let me handle that, Matt's a great player and clearly a staple moving forward.
