SLC DI
  • Hey guys...well at least we have forums again. Zamboni anywhere around these parts?

Anyways, what were the results from the SLC DI meeting? USC gone, UNLV back, Fullerton to DI? What do the North and South Divisions look like this year. Can someone fill us in?

    Lax is back!
  • USC is indeed gone, UNLV is back, Fullerton is moving to D1 after this season. The divisions are pretty much the same as last season, except for losing USC and gaining UNLV. It actually evens it out just a bit. Expect Grand Canyon to make the move to D2 in a year or two.

  • Reply to @aklett: Just curious, what are the league rules for reapplication by USC?

  • Reply to @Cam: I believe they would need to be readmitted as a developing member, meaning they would be held to a more strict standard regarding following the league policies. All they would need to do is come to next season's meeting and reapply to be in the league.

  • Do I have it right Aaron?

    North:
    UC Santa Barbara
    UCLA
    LMU
    Chapman
    Claremont

    South:
    Arizona
    Arizona State
    San Diego
    San Diego State
    UNLV
  • Reply to @buffalowill: That looks right as I wrote it down at the meeting. The south has quite the range of teams as far as travel is concerned.

  • Does anyone know the scores from the SDSU fall ball play day?
  • Has USC dropped their men's lacrosse program?
  • Reply to @bhsvideodad: Not sure if it's completely gone, but they didn't show up to the league meeting, meaning they are not a member of the SLC or MCLA this season. Hopefully there will be new leadership and a new group of dedicated kids to bring it back. Too big of a name not to have playing.

  • They got kicked out of the MCLA, because they were flaky and forfeited games.

  • Chapman rolled everyone except for a 8-1 loss against UCSB(I believe they played 5 games). UCSB lost by a few against UNLV, Lost to Fullerton 4-3, believe they beat the other two teams they played. SDSU may have gone 0 for. Fullerton beast UCSB 4-3, Lost to USD 4-2, Lost to UNLV 4-3, and lost to Chapman 7 or 8 to 1. Concordia beat SDSU by a handful, lost to UNLV 11-6/7 I believe, lost to Chapman. That's all I know off the top of my head. Good day of Lacrosse.
  • Reply to @MCLAFan74: those are some interesting results. Fullerton over UCSB is a huge surprise, and UNLV is too. Vegas is producing good players though.

  • Reply to @Cam: In a 4 quarter scrimmage, UCSB only beat Concordia 11-9. The top two SLC2 teams are really starting to make a push, let's hope that we can try to get two SLC2 teams to nationals this year. UNLV played well, they have an extremely potent offense and strong goal tending, their defense was spotty though. Fullerton played close to 17 minutes of D in the first half against UNLV and was down 1 at half. Not to mention they were without their all-american midfielder Chris Cole. They have a UCSB transfer and return 2 other Dpole starters, all-conference dpole Kody Kareta moved to LSM but they have a Freshman Dpole from Orange County who was said to be stronger out of HS than Andy Salcido(Chapman) by his former coach.
  • lets not look into fall ball scrimmages who knows who actually played in those games
  • I was at that game and I assure you it was their starters. Concordia looked good.

  • Interesting development now with ASU struggling. Their defense would appear to be pretty well sorted out but they seem to be having difficulty getting points on the board. Pretty tough to end up losing a game when you hold the opposition to 4 goals.
  • UCSB 10 Cal Poly 9 OT, great game!!

  • Well that just adds to the madness of this season so far.

  • This is exactly what I have been looking for. Just talked to some UCSB parents after the Cal Poly game last night and thought I would check it out. Laxpower has been a little lame.

Don't look into preseason too much. I remember losing to Irvine in the preseason the year we (UCSB) won our second national championship. Mike Allan likes to test a lot of personel combinations and look at the rookies in game situations. Concordia may have been doing the same. Winning is not a priority in the preseason.

As far as the Cal Poly/UCSB game, I think both teams could have played better. Cal Poly rarely had the ball on offense and dropped a lot of balls. Maybe it was the lights. UCSB won practically every draw on the faceoffs, but were unable to pick up the ground ball. Faceoffs may be the main weakness for the Mustangs.

That's about it. I hope these message boards pick up. I am having withdrawals and getting too much done at work.
  • SO GOOD to see some familiar (faces) names on here, the collegelax forum shutting down has been brutal...

As far as the Poly/SB game, i agree with what Beast said, SB won almost every single faceoff clean, but Oisin could not pick the ball up for the life of him. SB offense looked extremely good when the were patient and moved the ball around quickly and waited for their window to open. They looked sloppy and mediocre when they rushed it and forced looks on the crease.

Poly did not impress me really, though they clearly have a couple of very good talents at middie and attack, and showed that they can score goals in bunches if the opposing D isn't settled and ready.

It was also the most disciplined i've seen the Gauchos play within the system in a long time, Miller and Allan reunited should make SB a very strong contender the rest of the way, as long as the team maintains the discipline. Discipline is exactly what i have seen a lack of in some of the other talented (but flawed) teams (Chapman being a prime example) so far this season.

hopefully these boards pick up steam, invite your friends!
